Community Connect Concessions

UPDATE: Aged-based concessions end on 30 June 2024 and public transport fares will increase by 20 per cent.

Waikato Regional Council is providing a new fare capping system
for youth aged 5-18 years with a registered Bee Card.
Community Services and SuperGold card holder concessions still apply.

Community Services Card

If you have a current Community Services Card (CSC) you are eligible to receive half price fares on public transport journey to get this concession applied to your Bee card.

If you don't already have a Bee Card, your first one is free with the Community Connect scheme.

SuperGold Card holders with their concession loaded onto a Bee Card receive free travel on all Te Huia services. Showing your SuperGold Card does not entitle you to free travel. Please note the Bee Card can only be used on the Te Huia service, not Auckland Transport services.
To load your SuperGold concession on to your registered Bee Card:
- Visit beecard.co.nz and add your SuperGold concession online
- Ring 0800 205 305
- Visit the BUSIT counter at the Hamilton Transport Centre or any of our Bee Card retailers around the region
A different SuperGold concession is available in Auckland, but you will need to have an AT HOP card and apply for your SuperGold concession to be added to it. Find out more here on the AT website.
Waikato Regional Council’s accessibility concession (free public transport for people with disabilities) is available for use on the train. This concession is only available for residents of the Waikato region.
Please note that Waikato Regional Council's concession only applies on the Te Huia service. It is not available on the Auckland Metro network. A different accessibility concession is available in Auckland, but you will need to have an AT HOP card and apply for your concession to be added to it. All University of Waikato students and staff are eligible to receive 50% off single fares with their ID card loaded onto a registered Bee Card. Please note these concessions are loaded by the tertiary provider and can not be used to pay for other passengers fares or family passes.
Here are the details of how to load your concession;
University of Waikato
1. Get a Bee Card for $5 from the University Student Centre or the Hamilton Transport Centre – or use one you already have
2. Register it online at beecard.co.nz or via 0800 205 305
3. Verify you’re a university student or staff member by popping your registered Bee Card number into the online form here
4. Remember to tag on and tag off your Bee Card every trip to activate your discount
Note: it can take a few days for your concession to be loaded. You can check when it’s loaded via your online Bee Card account.

How to pay

Te Huia is a public transport service so you do not need to purchase a ticket in advance.

There are two ways to pay your Te Huia fare - Bee Card or cash - and you will need to pay onboard. If you are paying by cash, you will need to do this at the onboard cafe with cash or EFTPOS. If you are paying via Bee Card, the train manager will come through the carriage to hold your card to their mobile card reader. Click here to find out more about Bee Card.

Large Groups

While we're unable to reserve seats on public transport we do appreciate our passengers planning ahead. If you are travelling as a large group (10+), please get in contact via email at least one week prior to your intended departure date so we can provide advice and assess availability.

Travelling around in Auckland

Auckland Transport fares apply across the AT Metro train, bus and ferry network, and an AT HOP card will be required to get the best fares if you are planning to use public transport while in Auckland. You can purchase an AT HOP card from the BUSIT counter at the Hamilton Transport Centre, onboard the train, and at Papakura station.
